South River Restoration to Achieve ISO 9001 : 2008 Certification
September, 2011
Upper Marlboro, MD (Sept , 2011) - South River Restoration, a nationally recognized top ranking insurance mitigation and reconstruction firm, is proud to announce that it has achieved ISO 9001: 2008 Certification accreditation. The ISO 9000 family of standards relate to quality management systems and are designed to help organizations ensure they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders. As a result of their efforts, South River has obtained a certification that highlights their existing quality management system which clearly outlines their systematic processes and procedures for insuring the efficiency of business.
In order to obtain an ISO 9001 : 2008 Certification, the applying organization is assessed by an independent third party which conducts an extensive examination of all of its functions, products, services and processes. In order to be registered to the standard, external and internal audits must be performed to verify that the system is working as it is supposed to, as well as to find out where it can improve or correct problems identified.
South River Restoration is relied upon by such clients as top insurance carriers, local and national property management firms, contractors and business owners who expect excellent service. As Justin Terry, Director of Quality Assurance commented, "Utilizing the ISO Certification process provided the forum in which South River Restoration demonstrated our commitment to providing excellent quality to our clients as well as reflecting our dedication to changing the standards of excellence for our industry."
At this time, South River Restoration is one of a handful of insurance restoration companies in the United States to obtain an ISO 9001 : 2008 Certification. Their decision to obtain this certificate will impact every aspect of the production and completion of all restoration projects. ISO ensures that South River's customer service exceeds their customers' expectations. The vision of South River Restoration is to be recognized in the industry as the standard against which others are measured. By documenting standard operating procedures and quality guidelines, as well as officially recording their performance in maintaining quality objectives, the ISO 9001 : 2008 Certification provides structure and proof that South River Restoration is dedicated to, "Giving Back What Disaster Took."
South River Restoration among Contractor Connection's 2011 Top Performers
May 18, 2011
May 18th commenced the 2011 Crawford Contractor Connection Conference in San Diego, California. Crawford Contractor Connection is the largest network of restoration and managed repair contractors for the insurance industry. Their incredibly strict standards of participation make this a group of the most qualified restoration and contracting firms across the US. Their annual conference is one of the industry's largest gatherings of restoration professionals.
South River Restoration has been recognized as the Top Mitigation Contractor for the Central District.
It's also been ranked in the Top 10 General Contractors throughout the entire United States.
The ranking of contractors throughout the regional districts and nationwide is based on a variety of performance standards that are measured throughout the entire year.
- TIP (Time in Process) is evaluated from the initial phone call through the course of the project to the completion of the project. Each milestone is timestamped and a contractor is required to maintain a TIP within the set requirements of each milestone, down to the minute.
- Accuracy in estimating is another measure of performance. Estimates must be delivered in a timely manner and to the exact specifications of the insurance carrier, to prevent their return and delays in approval.
- Customer Service Surveys are performed by Crawford Contractor Connection with random homeowners throughout each month and the contractor is independently measured on a scale of 1 to 5.
- Re-inspections are performed to ensure that the work performed by the restoration and general contractors is of superior quality and completed to the homeowner's expectations.
For South River Restoration to have been acknowledged as a top contractor within the Contractor Connection network is quite an honor for us, as we appreciate the top quality of our competition. As always, we will strive to do our best and be the standard against which others are measured.
South River Restoration: Going Green
May 17, 2011
As globalization makes the world become smaller, it becomes increasingly easy to see how the lives of people (and plants and animals and ecosystems) everywhere are closely synced up with one another. So toys made in China can affect the quality of life in Europe, pesticides used in Argentina can affect the health of people in the U.S., and greenhouse gas emissions from Australia can affect a diminishing rainforest in Brazil.
The truth is that every single thing we do every day has an impact on the planet -- good or bad. Knowing this, South River Restoration is taking the necessary steps to sustain our Earth and "Go Green".
South River Restoration is announcing the replacement of its most used chemical, an antimicrobial, with a "green" antimicrobial: ShockWave Green24. ShockWave Green24 is a broad spectrum, non-corrosive, odorless, colorless, botanical based disinfectant. It kills the most deadly microorganisms, yet is safe for everyday use.
This next generation disinfectant works twenty times faster than traditional disinfectants and is formulated using ingredients which are naturally occurring in the environment. Its most active ingredients are citric acid and ionic silver. This revolutionary botanical-based disinfectant has the lowest toxicity rating (Category IV) available from the EPA, has no PPE requirements, and requires no rinsing after use.
Unlike typical disinfectants, ShockWave Green24 has no required warning language or first aid statements. In fact, there is no skin irritation and it is safe enough to use in daycare facilities and on children's toys. The health and safety of our Clients is our utmost priority and ShockWave Green24 is safer than most everyday cleaning chemicals.
Good planets are hard to find. South River Restoration is dedicated to the environment and conscientious of the footprints we're leaving.

HAAG Certified Roof Inspectors
March 15, 2011
In February 2011 South River Restoration flew staff members to Texas to undergo the Haag Certified Roof Inspector Program hosted by Haag Engineering. In this program inspectors are taught scientifically-based damage evaluation techniques to inspect roofs for damage quickly and accurately, and to correctly evaluate that damage with solid conclusions.
Within the course our inspectors were trained how hail and wind interacts with roofing, inspection safety, roof area calculations and applicable codes. For each major roofing type they covered profile manufacturers, installation, weathering, hail damage, wind damage, maintenance, mechanical damage and repair costs.
Haag Certification gives credibility to an inspector and South River Restoration is proud to employee Haag Certified Roof Inspectors in each of its locations.
South River Restoration wins PMA: Property Management Association 2009 First Place Award
November 23, 2009
South River Restoration has been awarded the First Place Award for Best Display of Equipment in the 2009 PMExpo. South River's presentation included a custom life-size display, replicating multiple types of structural components (flooring, trim, walls) and specialty drying equipment. This unique demonstration gave guests a visual hands-on approach to understanding the use, application and capabilities of specialty drying equipment and its importance in the proper restoration of property damage. This understanding assists property managers in choosing contractors fit for projects that may qualify for the use of in-place drying and other specialty drying methods; thus saving them in demolition, replacement and repair costs.

The 2nd Annual Frank Howard Celebrity Golf Classic presented by South River Restoration
August 17, 2009
On August 17th, 2009 business men and women from across the region participated in a golf event to benefit one of the most phenomenal charities in the world, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. South River Restoration presented the 2nd Annual Frank Howard Golf Classic, raising $55,000.00 with the support of players and sponsors. This is a feat that all involved should take pride in, as events such as this enable St. Jude to open its doors each day for children that otherwise may not have a chance.
The event began on Sunday, August 16th with a banquet dinner at Old South Country Club, during which players, sponsors and their guests mingled with over 20 hall-of-famers and sports celebrities such as Phil Niekro, Javier Lopez and Roberto Clemente Jr all of whom flew in for the tournament. Throughout dinner, graciously sponsored by The Original Steakhouse & Sports Theatre, special guests spoke on behalf of St. Jude including Stephanie Glowacki who spoke about her very personal experience with St. Jude when her 12 year old boy was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007. Her son William's steady recovery and St. Jude's considerable care for not only William but his parents and brothers was an inspiration to all and in itself proved this event's cause worthy.
Generous sponsors made this event the success it was. We would like to thank Loews Annapolis Hotel, AirTran Airways and Absolute Limousine for providing transportation and lodging for the celebrities and special guests. Food sponsors set up displays and buffets throughout the course such as Dominos Pizza, Morton's Steakhouse, Chick & Ruth's Deli, Shockers Bar & Grill and gelato from Aromi d'Italia cooled players down in the 90 degree heat. Fordham Brewing Company, Budweiser and Pepsi donated the much needed beverages for the 2-day event. Hole sponsors from within the restoration industry greeted players with games, food and drinks throughout tournament play and a special thanks also goes to the 46 businesses and restaurants around Annapolis that donated over $20,000 worth of items, services, tickets and trips to be raffled and auctioned.
It's with this kind of community and industry effort that we were able to have fun and contribute to a fantastic charity. Eight-four cents of every dollar received directly supports the treatment and research at St. Jude. All children accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay and it costs $1.4 million dollars to open the doors of the hospital each day. They can do so with the donations and support of individuals and organizations such as yourselves.

"All of us are born for a reason, but all of us don't discover why. Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others." -Danny Thomas, Founder of ALSAC / St. Jude
Thank you for your continued support! We look forward to seeing everyone in 2010!

South River Restoration Saves The Day!
January 20, 2009
South River Restoration is a CCRN Certified Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. I recently took a tour of their facility and South River's Contents Manager shared this fantastic story:
A family suffered a severe protein fire and everything was damaged, including most of their soft contents. One of the family members, a young boy that was diagnosed with autism, owned a life-sized German Shepherd stuffed animal and it was severely smoked.
Due to the large size and heavy smoke and soot damage, the local adjuster felt that the German Shepherd could not be restored using traditional cleaning methods. South River's Contents Manager thought otherwise. He stuffed the German Shepherd into their Esporta ES-3300 Wash System and, low and behold, it came out as good as new. He then went on to explain that the German Shepherd was large and very lifelike. So, when the South River Restoration employees entered the drying room where the stuffy sat, they jumped with fright.
The young boy was initially distraught when he thought his "protector" would be gone forever. With great pride, South River's Contents Manager was able to present the restored stuffy to the young boy who was very excited to see his special friend returned.
It is stories like this that illustrate the difference that each CCRN member is truly making in their own markets. If you have a success story that you would like to share with the group, I would truly appreciate it.
